Kangaroo rescued in north Bengal on way to Kolkata zoo

KOLKATA: A kangaroo that was rescued from Kumargram in Alipurduar on Saturday night is being brought to Alipore zoo in Kolkata.

According to an official, the way the kangaroo was being smuggled in a small box, has led to it being under stress now. “Also, there are some injuries on its body,” he said.

According to Saurav Chowdhury, member secretary of state zoo authority, “It will arrive late tonight. Until we receive it, we won’t be able to comment if it is a red kangaroo or an eastern grey kangaroo.”

Alipore zoo director A K Samanta said that till last reports came in, the team bringing the kangaroo to Kolkata was in Bolpur. “Doctors are checking on it. It is under stress. So, they are taking breaks during their journey. We hope the team will arrive by late tonight,” he added.

Two persons, both residents of Hyderabad, were arrested after the kangaroo was rescued by cops from Barobisha police outpost.
