Vice President Kamala Harris' political operation has entered the final full month of the election with a significant cash advantage over former President Donald Trump's network, according to campaign reports filed Sunday night. Harris began October with $346 million in the coffers of the committees she controls with the national Democratic Party, surpassing the nearly $285 million available to Trump for the final sprint to Election Day.
Harris has consistently outraised Trump since entering the race for the White House in late July and has quickly amassed $1 billion in support of her candidacy, a pace unmatched by any previous presidential contender. Last month, her principal campaign committee outraised Trump's by a more than 3-to-1 margin.
The Harris campaign has emphasized its reliance on small-dollar donations, with nearly two-thirds of the money raised in September coming from grassroots donors. The campaign has grown its base of donors making recurring contributions to 607,000 contributors, nearly double the number it had at the end of June.
Despite raising substantial sums, Harris is also spending heavily. Her campaign outspent Trump on advertising in September, allocating about $196 million compared to Trump's $73 million. A super PAC supporting Trump's candidacy received a large donation of $25 million from one of his biggest backers last month, bringing the donor's total contributions to a staggering $150 million this election cycle.
The leading super PAC backing Harris reported raising more than $104 million in September, with notable contributions from wealthy donors such as Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz, cryptocurrency firm Ripple Labs co-founder Christian Larsen, and billionaire Democratic governor of Illinois JB Pritzker.
Overall, the financial landscape of the election shows Harris maintaining a strong financial position as the campaign enters its final phase, with significant support from grassroots donors and wealthy backers alike.
