Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has initiated a “Back-to-School” program aimed at engaging young voters in crucial battleground states. The campaign plans to reach out to college students on 150 campuses during the fall semester through a series of activities.
The initiative will involve visits from campaign surrogates, targeted advertisements, and social media outreach. Additionally, the campaign is expanding its campus organizing team to enhance its efforts.
The campaign officially launched the program with visits to various campuses. Planned Parenthood President Alexis McGill Johnson visited the University of Pittsburgh, while Florida Democratic Rep. Maxwell Frost, the first Gen Z member of Congress, engaged with students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Bennett College in Greensboro.
Frost emphasized the significance of the upcoming election for young voters, highlighting key issues such as healthcare decisions, climate change, gun violence, and housing affordability. The campaign aims to leverage the momentum from Harris’ previous college tour, conducted last year under the Biden administration, which focused on mobilizing young voters around critical issues like women’s reproductive rights, gun safety, and climate change.
