Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign is ramping up its legal team in anticipation of potential legal challenges to the election outcome in November. The team now includes two former White House counsels, Dana Remus and Bob Bauer, as well as Marc Elias, a prominent Democratic election lawyer.
The campaign chair, Jen O’Malley Dillon, expressed confidence in the team's preparedness, stating, 'For four years, Democrats have been preparing for this moment, and we are ready for anything.' The campaign emphasizes its robust voter and election protection operation, along with a team of highly skilled lawyers.
Remus and Bauer are set to provide strategic direction to the legal team, drawing on their extensive experience in election issues. Remus previously served as a White House counsel to President Joe Biden, while Bauer held the same role under President Barack Obama and has been Biden’s personal attorney.
Maury Riggan, the campaign’s general counsel, and Meredith Horton, the national voter protection and access director, are also key figures in the effort. Elias will lead recount efforts and provide strategic advice on recount procedures.
The New York Times first reported on these developments, highlighting the scale of the Harris campaign's legal initiative as the largest voter protection program in American presidential history.
