Far from struggling for minutes at Manchester City, as many predict he will, Kalvin Phillips will be a key component in Pep Guardiola’s side. And his relationship with Erling Haaland could be massive in terms of adding a new dynamic to City’s attacking play.
That’s the view of former Mirror Sport columnist Stan Collymore, who said: “Kalvin Phillips is a very good signing for any top club. A lot of people think he is coming in as Fernandinho’s replacement and that he’ll be going head-to-head with Rodri, and, yes, to a degree that could be the case.
“But I do wonder if specifically this has been a very clever move by Pep Guardiola to get someone in who has in his locker that longer pass over the top, which is not something City have used very often in the past.
