Kalidou Koulibaly is at Chelsea to win. And knows that attitude is expected of him. "I don’t come with arrogant behaviour, I come with a lot of respect for everybody," the centre-back says. "But I know that Chelsea is a big team. A team that has to win. A team that’s used to winning."
A pursuit that started seven years ago under Antonio Conte came to an end this summer as Koulibaly, at the age of 31 years old, opted to leave Napoli for Chelsea. That was not an easy decision. The Senegal international was adored by supporters of the Serie A side and was even named an honorary citizen of Naples in 2019. The affection ran deep.
Yet the lingering desire to move to the Premier League and enjoy a new experience, a new culture, tempted Koulibaly away. And when Chelsea once again returned with an offer for the defender last month, the time was right for Koulibaly and Napoli to part ways.
