There was just one place to be for the LA set on Thursday night: The Wiltern Theatre.
The Art Deco jewel played host to French label Celine’s recent show, which following an audience-less runway released online only two weeks ago, was fully packed with A-listers.
Creative director Hedi Slimane stuck to the same signatures he consolidated during his Saint Laurent years (2012 – 2016): skinny leather trousers, skinny silk ties, punctutaed by the odd sparkle-strewn golden dress, as seen on Kaia Gerber.
The 21-year-old model had a big crowd out to support her, counting mother Cindy Crawford, father Rande Gerber and brother Presley. Her boyfriend, Austin Butler, who was the star of Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis film was also there to applaud her, and was joined by the late singer’s former wife Priscilla Presley.
The Kaia fan club were not the only familiar faces to take in the new season gold lamé suits. Paris Hilton posed up a storm with Paris Jackson, and joined Courteney Cox and Brie Larson on the front row. Actor Emma Roberts also made an appearance in a puff sleeve, gold sequinned top and white tennis skirt, singer Doja Cat was kitted out in double leathers and rapper Wiz Khalifa also took his place on the front row.
For all the sparkle on the Frow, however, Slimane’s allergy to casting plus size models remained alarming. The parade of models were reminiscent of the catwalks of his noughties heyday, but is an image ill-suited to today’s sensibilities.
