Kai Havertz sends seven-word message to Thomas Tuchel ahead of big Romelu Lukaku Chelsea call

Chelsea forward Kai Havertz has admitted that the striking role is 'good' for him after he headed home the opener against Lille in the Champions League.

Havertz, 22, grasped at the opportunity that was presented his way after Thomas Tuchel had decided to give Romelu Lukaku the night off after his ineffective Crystal Palace performance.

It only took the £70million man eight minutes to vindicate the German's trust he had put in him as his movement allowed him a free header from a Hakim Ziyech corner.

Although that was his only goal contribution of the night, his constant movement and link-up play made Chelsea's play look a lot easier on the eye and as a result of this latest outing, has handed Tuchel a massive headache ahead of the weekend.

Initially, it was thought that Lukaku would be given his place back on Sunday but Havertz has now thrown a spanner in the works.

On the contrary, the 28-year-old who never left the bench on Tuesday night other than to do some warms ups during the second half, can arguably say the same thing, considering his two goals at the FIFA Club World Cup this season.

Regardless of which way Tuchel swings in this debate, he will certainly be leaving one player disappointed.

Perhaps he starts both to avoid any confrontation but Chelsea's number 29 has sent the manager under the spotlight now a seven-word message as to why he should start up front on Sunday over his striking compatriot.

"Yeah, I mean it’s good for me," he stated on BT Sport 2 when asked about his preference to play as the sole striker.

"I think we have a lot of good strikers so it’s always good to maybe have a change to not make it easy for the opponent. I think it worked today, it worked good but I enjoy every position forward."

On top of his personal stake to the manager, Joe Cole has backed up these claims with his own analysis on who he believes should start from the off against Jurgen Klopp's men.

He said on BT Sport: He’s [Havertz] got that knack of doing it in big games. Certain players have got that sparkle, they have got that bit of magic and Kai Havertz has got it.

"That will come into the manager’s thinking when he’s thinking about cup finals, big games. He’ll look around, who’s his characters that are not going to fluff their lines? Who's going to get the job done?

"Kai Havertz has got that German blood where he seems to thrive under pressure of the big games."
