Kadarius Toney named Giants’ fantasy breakout candidate

Fantasy football enthusiasts are preparing for another big season of action and perusing NFL rosters searching for this year’s potential ‘steals.’

The folks at The Athletic are always willing to oblige when it comes these things and have listed their ‘breakout’ fantasy players for all 32 NFL teams.

For the New York Giants, second-year wide receiver Kadarius Toney, the 20th overall section in the 2021 NFL draft, is the player fantasy owners should be focusing on.

“This seems like an obvious answer on the surface,” writes Athletic Giants beat reporter Dan Duggan.

“Toney had a monster two-game stretch early in his rookie season (16 catches for 267 yards) and is electric with the ball in his hands. If he stays healthy, his ceiling is extremely high. The problem is Toney totaled only 23 catches for 153 yards outside of that two-game explosion. A wide variety of injuries limited him to 10 games, and he has missed most of the spring due to knee surgery. So questions linger about Toney, but his upside makes him a strong breakout candidate.”

In my seasoned and professional opinion, Toney has to prove his reliability in order for fantasy players to put any stock in him right now. If he can a) stay on the field and b) get the touches each week that players look for, by midseason he should climb up a few rungs.

If he continues on a path of inconsistency, Toney will remain a bubble player in fantasy circles.
