Juventus 'set to terminate' Aaron Ramsey contract as Rangers snub transfer

Juventus are ready to rip up Aaron Ramsey's contract this summer after Juventus made it clear they wouldn't be pursuing a permanent deal.

The Welshman has struggled for minutes in Italy under Max Allegri and headed to Scotland on loan in January.

He's only started once for Rangers however and faces an uncertain future beyond the current campaign.

Ramsey moved to Juventus back in 2019 on a free from Arsenal, but has struggled with injuries throughout his time in Turin.

Calciomercato report that Juventus tried to cancel Ramsey's deal before he agreed a loan move to Rangers.

The Welsh star is under contract until 2023 but Ross Wilson, Rangers' sporting director, has made the club's stance clear regarding a permanent move.

Ramsey missed his fourth game in a row through injury on Wednesday night as the defending champions beat St Johnstone.

"But it's football - you will almost never get an ideal scenario as a coach," Giovanni Van Bronckhorst said on the player's situation.

He added: "I don't have a clear timeline. Hopefully he can join the team very soon.

"He is already working on the pitch again, so hopefully in the near future we can welcome him back in the squad."

Juventus allowed Rodrigo Bentancur to leave for Tottenham in January whilst they bought in Denis Zakaria.

Allegri returned for a second stint at the Allianz Stadium in the summer and is in the midst of reshaping the squad.

The Bianconeri surrendered their Serie A title last term and look set to miss out again this season.

Rangers meanwhile attempting to back up last season's Scottish league success but are chasing rivals Celtic.

They're three points behind their neighbours having changed managers midseason following Steven Gerrard's move south to Aston Villa.

Ramsey's signing in January was seen as a major coup with Ally McCoist likening the signing to that of Paul Gascoigne.

He said at the time: “I am really excited. It is just what Rangers fans needed, what the team needed – a boost in the middle of the park.

“I’m trying to think back to when Rangers made a signing like this and I’m going back to Gascoigne and people like that – this is how big I think this signing could be.

“I know he has not been playing, a little bit out of favour at Juventus, but what a footballer Aaron Ramsey is. It is a brilliant signing for Rangers and Scottish football."
