The Denver Broncos defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 24-9 on Sunday, ending a 16-game losing streak to KC that dated back to 2015.
After the game, Broncos safety Justin Simmons gushed about the complete team win.
“I just thought it was a heck of a game,” Simmons said after the Broncos upset the Chiefs. “I think for me, playing complete football in all three phases was really fun to watch. I know the defensive effort was there today, and I thought ‘VJ’ did such a great job of rolling the calls, mixing things up. I think for us, we just did a good job of executing it and that was kind of the result of what it looked like. I thought our front played amazing, and they knew at times on when to be aggressive and they knew at times to keep [Patrick] Mahomes in the pocket, which is really hard to do.
“We see that week-in and week-out with that offense, and they always find ways to make explosive [plays]. By no means [was it] perfect today, but we made enough plays to win the game; not to mention the special teams plays that were made, and what a heck of a job by our offense to hold the ball, run the clock and give us some limited possessions while we’re out there. I think that played a role, too. It was just a complete effort today. I’m really proud with how the guys battled and played. Hit this bye, rest up and get ready to make this push in the second half.”
Simmons, 29, has totaled 30 tackles, two pass breakups and two interceptions in six games so far this year (he missed two games due to injury). Sunday marked his first career win against the Chiefs, giving Simmons and his teammates positive momentum going into the bye week. After the bye, Denver will go on the road to face the Buffalo Bills in Week 10.
