Listing your favorite players at a position or in the league itself is a past time of many analysts and players alike.
On an ambassador trip to Brazil, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson was asked about his top five quarterbacks in the National Football League by RedeTV’s Danillo Lacalle and he didn’t include his quarterback, Kirk Cousins.
Jefferson’s list was as follows:
- Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs
- Aaron Rodgers, New York Jets
- Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals
- Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles
- Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
I ranked all the quarterbacks in the NFL for Vikings Wire and I placed Cousins at 11th in tier three, which I described as really good, but not great. That is a fair synopsis of what Cousins is as a starting quarterback relative to his peers.
Jefferson is of the same mindset, where we share three of the top five quarterbacks in the NFL in Mahomes (1st), Allen (2nd) and Burrow (3rd). Hurts (7th) and Rodgers (9th) both finished in the top 10 on my rankings.
What does that mean in terms of Jefferson’s relationship with his quarterback? It’s likely a nothing burger. Speaking highly of others doesn’t mean you think poorly of someone else.
Honesty is always the best policy and while this seems controversial, it’s likely going to be overblown.
