Justin Fields throws a pair of touchdown passes early against the Browns

For those believers in Chicago Bears second-year quarterback Justin Fields, his start against the Cleveland Browns in the final preseason game must have felt like a long time coming.

Fields and the Bears’ offense reached the end zone twice in the early going, with both scoring plays coming thanks to the right arm of the young passer. After a three-and-out on their opening possession, the Bears put together a 7-play, 86-yard that ended with this scoring strike from Fields to tight end Ryan Griffin:

This is a tremendous throw from Fields, who splits the cornerback and the safety for the touchdown.

Chicago reached the end zone on their very next possession, taking advantage of good starting field position due to a missed field goal. This time the Bears went 52 yards in 5 plays, with Fields connecting with Dante Pettis on this touchdown:

This is a great play from both the receiver, and the quarterback. Pettis runs a perfect route, threatening the cornerback’s inside leverage before breaking towards the sideline. Fields, for his part, makes this throw with precision and perfect timing, leading to the score.

The Bears’ starting offense had not exactly been lights-out in previous preseason action, so for Fields and company to put together these two scoring drives has to be a huge boost for their confidence as the regular season looms.
