The Justice Department has announced plans to monitor polls in 27 states to ensure compliance with federal voting rights laws during the upcoming Nov. 5 election. This monitoring effort will cover 86 jurisdictions across the 27 states, with a focus on upholding federal civil rights laws.
The agency stated that it routinely deploys staff to oversee elections nationwide to ensure adherence to civil rights laws. The monitoring team will consist of personnel from the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division, U.S. Attorney’s Offices, and federal observers from the Office of Personnel Management.
Throughout the election process, the Division personnel will maintain communication with state and local election officials to address any issues that may arise and to ensure that voting rights are protected.
