Protester Louis McKechnie was handed a prison sentence after tying himself to a goalpost at Goodison Park as Everton played Newcastle United. The 21-year-old activist was given a six-week prison sentence.
McKechnie denied aggravated trespass and going onto the playing area during the clash on March 17. But he was found guilty following a trial at South Sefton Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
The court heard McKechnie used a metal-enforced zip tie to attach himself to a goalpost by his neck. He said he hoped his actions would save lives.
