'Just crazy' - Fabio Carvalho makes Liverpool admission ahead of potential first start

Fabio Carvalho admits the Anfield atmosphere is "just crazy" as he prepares for a potential first competitive start for Liverpool.

Carvalho was impressive during his late cameo at Manchester United on Monday with his shot paving the way for Mohamed Salah to score the visitors' goal in a 2-1 Premier League defeat.

The 19-year-old, signed from Fulham in the summer, has emerged from the bench in all four games this season and is now pressing for a starting role for the visit of Bournemouth on Saturday.

And Carvalho has already been blown away by his first taste of the real Anfield atmosphere with his brief appearance in the 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace a fortnight ago.

“When I first stepped into Anfield, I’ve never seen anything like it," he said. “I’m not just saying that because obviously I’m at Liverpool now. The crowd, the stadium, the fans... just thinking about it now, it’s just crazy.

“There’s nothing like the Liverpool fans because they just support you through thick and thin. It’s the 12th man, it’s literally the 12th man because they keep us going.

“Like the Palace game, where we went a man down, we had 10 men, they kept us going and we got the draw. And if there was a bit longer in the game we probably could have won the game.”

Liverpool are still seeking a first Premier League win of the season as they grapple with an injury crisis that saw them without nine senior players on Monday along with the suspended Darwin Nunez.

None are expected to return for the weekend with Carvalho among those poised to come in should Jurgen Klopp choose to rotate his resources after the hugely disappointing performance at Old Trafford.

But the Portugal under-21 international believes the squad spirit remains intact as Liverpool look to overcome their worst start to a league campaign in a decade.

“Obviously I’ve been here a short period but even from day one you could see that,” said Carvalho to liverpoolfc.com.

“Maybe it’s a bit of a cliche thing to say we’re a family – everyone says that – but literally here that’s how it is. Everyone is just so close to each other and the way I’ve been embraced and welcomed into the team has been nothing short of amazing.

“I’m sure we’ll be able to show our togetherness on and off the pitch and that will result in better results.”
