Arsenal are continuing to push for moves to sign Declan Rice and Kai Havertz this summer, but there is also serious interest in Ajax defender Jurrien Timber.
The Dutch international, who can play at right-back and centre-back, fits the bill perfectly for Mikel Arteta. The Gunners boss has made no secret of his admiration of versatile players in the past and has a proven record of getting the best out of players capable of playing in a number of positions.
Earlier this week, it emerged that Arsenal had been unsuccessful in their opening bid worth £30million by Ajax. football.london understands that a bid significantly higher than the original offer would be enough to prise the 22-year-old away from Amsterdam.
However, recent reports from Dutch journalist Johan Inan suggest Timber and Ajax agreed on a release clause when he extended his contract last summer. It's currently unclear what figure the clause sits at, but it's understood the clause will become active in a fortnight.
Now, Timber has sparked excitement amongst the Arsenal fanbase following his activity on social media. Early on Thursday morning, the Ajax star asked his 39.5k followers for suggestions for a new television series on Twitter.
In the replies, hundreds of Arsenal supporters took the opportunity to ask him to join the club. Later on, Timber simply tweeted 'Thanks' before swiftly deleting the tweet after another bombardment from supporters.

This summer is the second consecutive year that Timber has been involved in a transfer saga. He failed to secure a move to Manchester United after Erik ten Hag's move to England, but he remained in the Eredivisie.
