Jurrien Timber shares first picture on crutches as Arsenal defender begins recovery from knee surgery

Jurrien Timber has shared an update on his recovery from injury by posting a picture of himself on crutches.

The 22-year-old arrived in north London over the summer from Ajax for an initial £34m fee, and was one of Arsenal’s most impressive performers in their pre-season fixtures.

That earned him a start in the opening Premier League match of the season, at home to Nottingham Forest, but Timber was forced off with injury just a few minutes into the second-half, sparking fears of a significant injury blow.

The club subsequently confirmed that the versatile defender would require surgery after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury, with it uncertain whether Timber will return to fitness in time to play again this season.

His surgery has taken place and Timber took to social media on Friday to share a first picture on crutches, caption simply with the Dutch word ‘Vrijdag’, meaning Friday.

In a message posted after the severity of his injury was announced, the Dutchman admitted he was “gutted” to have been ruled out for the forseeable future so early into his Arsenal career.

Timber posted on Instagram: “Gutted to share my injury is more serious than expected, especially after the warm welcome I’ve received.

“I wanted to repay you on the pitch, which will not be possible for the forthcoming period. I’m blessed with a lot of great people around me, together we will do anything to get back as soon and strong as possible.

“For now I’ll be supporting our team from the stands of course. Thanks for making me feel at home in such a short period of time, see you at The Carpet.”
