Jurrien Timber’s confidence questioned after Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United warning

In recent weeks, Manchester United’s links with Jurrien Timber seemed to have cooled following Louis Van Gaal’s World Cup warning. The ex-Old Trafford boss, and now Netherlands national team head coach, told the defender that he may not be selected for Qatar if he moves to the Reds and fails to earn frequent game time.

As a result, reports claim the centre-half may have changed his mind about a switch to England. Erik ten Hag is after a defensive recruit this summer, as well as midfielders and an attacker.

He was targeting the 21-year-old, who can also play right-back, after the pair lifted the Dutch title at Ajax together last month. Now, Feyenoord’s Tyrell Malacia now looks to be Ten Hag’s first signing as United boss.

Former United striker Louis Saha explained how Timber’s response to the ultimatum from Van Gaal will show his mental strength. He argued that if he is confident in his own abilities, he will make the move to United.

He told bonuscodebets : “He’s not working for Manchester United, so he’s allowed to give advice to his international players. If the player is strong enough to come, he’ll come.

“If he listens to his national team manager, he’ll do it and it would be better to stay where he is because he might not be a very confident player. It’s the player’s decision, not the national team manager. If he wants to come to Man United, he will be more than welcome.”
