Jurgen Klopp told Liverpool players how he feels after re-watching Real Madrid loss

Jurgen Klopp opted against asking his players for their individual takes on the Real Madrid loss, instead focusing on getting his own message across.

The German watched from the dugout as Liverpool were torn apart by the European champions at Anfield. The Reds had taken a 2-0 lead within the opening 15 minutes, but then conceded five unanswered goals to all but end their Champions League ambitions for another season.

Such defeats on Merseyside are something of a rarity but Klopp has had no time to watch and analyse the game with his players due to their tight turnaround ahead of their Premier League game at Crystal Palace. The Liverpool boss, who has had to endure a difficult campaign this term, has relaid his take on the Los Blancos loss but now wants to keep the group onside and believing.

He said: "We watched the game back, no time to watch it with the players. Same with training, not a lot of time to use. I don't read a lot but when you lose like this, it makes no sense to listen. Conceding 5 in home CL game in not acceptable, I know that.

"It's not that you can work on a lot of stuff between Wednesday to Saturday. When you lose a game like that it makes no sense to read or listen to what people say. But the first half was a really good half. A lot of things are back but not stable - that's why we conceded the goals.

"The second half had worst start for us. What I saw was a lot of things are back but not stable yet. It was a night which wasn't helpful but we have to work with it. We prepare for two days and again today. Hopefully we learn the right things. There was also a lot of good stuff (v Real Madrid ) that I hadn't seen for a long time.

HAVE YOUR SAY! Will Liverpool make the top four? Comment below.

"I see the players and tell them how I feel but I don't ask them individually. When things go well, it's about the players. When it's not, it's about me. It's my job to make sure they listen to me and believe me. I try to help the players as much as I can but I cannot switch social media off for them! Or the media.

"I don't know a lot of teams who would have used our mistakes in the way Real Madrid did. Or Vinicius Jr or Benzema. Now we play Palace."

Liverpool would have to overturn a three-goal deficit just to force extra-time in Madrid. It means their priority is now going to be on ensuring they finish in the top four, otherwise they will face a season out of the Champions League.

Klopp has said on their chances of orchestrating a miracle comeback: "We go there, I can say it now already, and try to win the game. If that is possible or not, I don't know now but that's what we will try and from there we will see."
