Jurgen Klopp sends 'clear' Fabinho message and issues Liverpool challenge to Darwin Nunez

Jurgen Klopp believes Fabinho has taken a step in the right direction after an improved showing in Liverpool's 2-0 victory over Napoli on Tuesday night.

With the Reds have struggled with inconsistent form and injuries so far this season, the Brazilian has been one of their most below-par performers compared to his previous high standards. However, Klopp was pleased with the midfielder's performance against Napoli, who hadn't lost yet this season prior to their trip to Anfield.

And with Liverpool also putting in a much-improved all-round defensive display against the Serie A outfit, Klopp shared how important it was for Fabinho to start rediscovering his best form.

"It's good, it's absolutely good. The game was a clear sign of Fabinho, how we know him," the German told reporters. "It was a good game. We defended in all positions in a different level to the week before.

"It was good, it felt good. For him it was very important to realise it was possible as well. A good start in the right direction."

Meanwhile, Klopp also challenged Darwin Nunez to keep on improving after the Uruguayan came off the bench and played a part in both goals against Napoli, scoring one and forcing a save which gifted Mohamed Salah a tap-in for the other, to extend his recent scoring run to five goals from his last seven games.

"Yeah, big steps, big steps. And still space for improvement because the boy's an incredible package," he said. "You could see immediately he is a real threat in the finishing area. Involved in a lot of things.

"You then realise a few big chances he missed, imagine he would have scored from them as well. He's involved in pretty much everything. He's always an option to pass to or cross the ball to.

"He came on, didn't play extremely long but involved in both goals. It's good, it's big steps."
