Jurgen Klopp's incredible Borussia Dortmund XI that thrashed Bayern Munich to win double

Jurgen Klopp 's star-studded Liverpool squad currently find themselves fighting on all four trophy fronts, but they aren't the only incredible side the German has ever assembled.

During his time with Borussia Dortmund, the current Reds boss transformed the Black and Yellows from mid-table also-rans into German juggernauts. Klopp won five honours during his glittering seven-year spell at the club but his finest achievement with Dortmund arguably came back in 2012.

Fresh from winning their first Bundesliga title in over a decade the previous year, Klopp's side enjoyed a record-breaking season which saw them retain their crown with a then-record number of points and league wins, in addition to claiming the DFB Pokal with a stunning 5-2 thumping of Bayern Munich. It's fair to say Klopp's double-winning side were quite the force.

Masters of the Gegenpress, Klopp's Dortmund were a well-oiled machine and thrived in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Dortmund legend Roman Weidenfeller was Klopp's trusted pair of hands between the sticks and the backline tasked with protecting the stopper were some quartet.

Neven Subotic and Mats Hummels were two towering figures at the heart of the defence, flanked by Polish international Lukasz Piszczek on the right and the ever-reliable Marcel Schmelzer on the left. But in order to attempt to breach the back four, opponents first had to find a way past a daunting holding midfield partnership of Ilkay Gundogan, now at Manchester City, and the experienced Sebastian Kehl, who was captain and leader of the side.

The pair were the perfect midfield platform, whose solidarity allowed three more attack-minded midfielders to thrive. The lively Jakub Blaszczykowski was a constant threat from out wide and formed a frightening partnership with compatriot Piszczek down the right.

Have Your Say! Will would Klopp's double-winning Dortmund side fare against his current Liverpool team? Tell us what you think here.

On the left, Klopp had the industrious Kevin Grosskreutz at his disposal, while the creative force in Dortmund's midfield was Shinji Kagawa - the Japanese playmaker who would later turn out for Manchester United. The spearhead of such a slick side? None other than Robert Lewandowski.

The prolific Pole hit a staggering 30 goals - which included a hat-trick in the DFB final drubbing of Bayern - and registered a further 12 assists in all competitions during Dortmund's double-winning campaign; it was only his second season at the club. The campaign would ultimately prove a turning point in the career of the striker, who would go on to establish himself as one of world football's most revered marksmen.

In the 2012 DFB Pokal showpiece, it would be Kagawa who would open the scoring for Klopp's side, netting a mere three minutes into the final. Arjen Robben would reply from the penalty spot with 25 minutes played before Mats Hummels restored Dortmund's lead from 12 yards out himself.

Bayern were then put to the sword by Lewandowski - a striker who would subsequently join them little over two years later. The Pole struck in first half stoppage time before adding his second - and Dortmund's fourth - 13 minutes after the interval.

Franck Ribery's stunner reduced the arrears for Bayern with 15 minutes to play, however it would be Lewandowski who would have the last laugh - and not for the final time in this fixture. Dortmund's No.9 completed his hat-trick, heading home his side's fifth with under 10 minutes remaining to clinch a second piece of silverware for the season and send Klopp into raptures.

So good was this Dortmund side that the likes of future World Cup winner Mario Gotze and clinical Croatian Ivan Perisic were left to settle for spots on the bench. The thought of the Klopp's 2012 double-winning side taking on his current Liverpool crop would make for quite the spectacle.
