Jurgen Klopp conceded Graham Potter's axe by Chelsea is just "part of the business" but branded the number of sackings this season as "awful" after two managers lost their jobs in one day.
Potter was dismissed from his post on Sunday just seven months after his appointment at Stamford Bridge. Defeat to Aston Villa the day prior proved to be the final act of the former Brighton boss, who won just 12 of his 31 matches in charge.
Potter's axe came on the same day as Brendan Rodgers leaving Leicester. Speaking ahead of the Premier League clash between his struggling Liverpool side and Chelsea on Tuesday, Klopp told a press conference: "I think today the elephant in the room is why am I still sitting here in this crazy world? Last man standing.
"So yeah I think both clubs are not in a spot where they expect to be, I cannot really say a lot more about it. Yes, let's say I know them well, I respect them a lot. To be honest I like both when I met them, really good people and fantasic managers both of them but still things can go the wrong way and decision makers in the club think they have to change and they change.
"We all accept that's part of the business, but that's it. Last week Conte, Nagelsmann and now these two. The season is in a decisive part. People are afraid of not reaching their targets.
"I think it's 12 [sackings] now, which is an awful number. I think some clubs are underachieving, us too. There are expectations out there, rightly so and if you don't reach them, you have to accept the decisions."
Potter leaves Chelsea 11th in the table after Villa jumped above them with their 2-0 win on Saturday. The defeat was the latest damaging blow amidst a horrid run for Potter, which includes losses to Fulham, Southampton and Tottenham since the turn of the year.
He did manage to steer Chelsea into the Champions League quarter-finals after overturning a 1-0 first-leg deficit against Borussia Dortmund, but did not get the chance to face Real Madrid in the next round. Both Liverpool and Chelsea are now battling the odds to qualify for next season's competition, with the Reds just five points ahead in eighth.
Liverpool are currently eight points off the top four, with both sides in desperate need of a win in Tuesday's encounter if they are to stand any chance of qualifying through their domestic finish. Chelsea's best option is argaubly winning the competition outright this season, though may have to do so under the stewardship of interim boss Bruno Saltor, who has stayed on with the rest of Potter's staff despite his departure.
Chelsea are now planning to conduct an exhaustive interview process to seek a replacement for Potter, with Julian Nagelsmann, Mauricio Pochettino and Marco Silva among the leading names in the frame. Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly had already sacked Thomas Tuchel earlier this season and is now looking for his third manager after taking over the club last summer.
A statement issued by the club on Sunday read: "On behalf of everyone at the club, we want to thank Graham sincerely for his contribution to Chelsea. We have the highest degree of respect for Graham as a coach and as a person. He has always conducted himself with professionalism and integrity and we are all disappointed in this outcome.
"Along with our incredible fans, we will all be getting behind Bruno [Saltor] and the team as we focus on the rest of the season. We have 10 Premier League games remaining and a Champions League quarter-final ahead. We will put every effort and commitment into every one of those games so that we can end the season on a high."
