Jurgen Klopp 'pushing hard' for Sofyan Amrabat as Liverpool learn midfielder's price tag

Jurgen Klopp is 'pushing' Liverpool to intensify their pursuit of Sofyan Amrabat this month, according to Corriere dello Sport.

Fiorentina midfielder Amrabat has been consistently linked with a move to Anfield after starring for Morocco at the World Cup. The North African side topped their group ahead of Belgium and Croatia, before beating both Spain and Portugal without conceding a single goal.

Pivotal to that defensive solidity was Amrabat, with the 26-year-old's energy and combativeness in defensive midfield seemingly catching Premier League attention. Liverpool are joined by Tottenham Hotspur in reportedly leading the race for the Moroccan, with Fiorentina keen on retaining their star's services, but acknowledging the riches of those interested parties.

Klopp is said to be a huge fan of Amrabat, and the report adds that he is 'pushing hard' for a January offer and knows the club's management will provide the resources to ‘please him’.

Fiorentina remain stubborn in their stance, however, with the Italian outfit planning to offer Amrabat a new contract in a bid to fend off interest. But the money and status of those interested could force La Viola's hand.

Should the decision be made to cash in on the midfielder this month, those in charge at the Stadio Artemio Franchi will command a fee of €50million (around £44million).

Klopp admitted over the weekend that Liverpool cannot 'splash the cash' during this window, with the £40million signing of Cody Gakpo unlikely to kick-off a spending spree.

He said: "Honestly, we cannot play like Monopoly. We never did and I don't understand it. Of course we cannot just spend and never could. And we always sort our situations. It is a big part of my philosophy, really working full of faith and trust with the players we have and not constantly questioning them by telling them that we need another player in their position.

"But that somebody is surprised when I say we will not now start splashing the cash - is that the phrase? I never did it but I know it anyway! - that should be really clear. If there is something we can do, and that was always the case, and that means the right player and financial situation, we will do it. Then if not, then no."
