Jurgen Klopp might be losing interest in Liverpool job as FSG sent transfer warning

Didi Hamann has suggested that Jurgen Klopp is no longer interested in managing Liverpool as the Reds’ on-field struggles continue.

Having fallen agonisingly short of an unprecedented quadruple last year, Liverpool’s Premier League title-hopes have long since died with the Reds currently down in eighth in the table, seven points off the top four. Meanwhile, already out of both domestic cups, they are also on the verge of Champions League elimination after losing 5-2 at home to Real Madrid in their round-of-16 first leg tie at Anfield in midweek.

Boasting an ageing squad in transition, the summer transfer window is set to be a busy one for Liverpool with a midfield revamp planned at the very least. Former Reds midfielder Hamann wants his old club to sign Declan Rice from West Ham United, but isn’t convinced that owners FSG will be willing to sanction the required surgery, and has suggested that Klopp could be losing interest in his job as a result.

Liverpool is completely exhausted physically and mentally,” Hamann told Sky Germany. “This team urgently needs new players for big money. I don't know if the owners are willing to do that and if not.

“They're pretty good up front, but midfield and defence need freshening up. I would absolutely buy Declan Rice from West Ham in their place.

“I don't know if the coach is still interested, because they can only be competitive with a very large investment. In the last transfer periods they have held back, but this can't go on. At least not successfully.

“Whether he still wants to stay is probably only decided by Klopp alone. Don't forget where the Reds were before he came along and what has happened since. Titles, reputation in Europe and the way of playing football have been in other spheres since then.”
