Jurgen Klopp makes Liverpool transfer admission amid concerns over "too many injuries"

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insisted nothing has changed in transfer terms despite some injury setbacks for his team.

The Reds have made just three senior signings ahead of the upcoming campaign as they aim to reclaim the title from Manchester City after being pipped by a point last season. Darwin Nunez has been the highest-profile addition, arriving for a fee which could eventually rise to a club record, with Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay also joining the squad.

Klopp's team have been dealt a fresh blow in their preparations, with Ibrahima Konate injured in a pre-season friendly against Strasbourg and joining Curtis Jones on the sidelines. However, the manager has suggested they won't be rushed into any last-minute transfer business.

"We have too many injuries, that's true, but in this moment nothing has changed," Klopp told the media ahead of Liverpool's Premier League opener against Fulham (via The Echo ). The Reds will be able to call upon Alisson for the game, despite the goalkeeper missing some of the pre-season programme through injury, while the likes of Nunez and last season's top scorer Mohamed Salah will look to add to their Community Shield goals.

"We can't solve a problem we have for four weeks with a transfer," the German manager continued. "The window is open so we will see but there are no plans."

The boss did, however, reveal the injury to Konate "will influence outgoing transfers". Nat Phillips had been linked with a departure after ending last season on loan at Bournemouth, but is now expected to stay as cover with the French defender unavailable.

Klopp's comments arrived with Liverpool also missing Kostas Tsimikas, though the left-back could be back soon. "Kostas unlucky in a training situation. He might be ready to train next week which is helpful," the manager said.

"Ibou [Konate] in a challenge v Strasbourg, we have to see how long it will take but he's out for a while. [Alisson] is fine. Curtis we hope we caught it at the right moment. Sometimes with young players they have a stress reaction. We have to be careful.

"Naby [Keita] I think will be back today the first day. Yesterday some symptoms still, not Covid, but not right. Caoimhin [Kelleher] a few weeks away."

Liverpool were quiet in the transfer market last summer, only adding Konate to their ranks and wrapping up the deal early on. However, they have not been averse to acting towards the end of a window, as shown by their move for Luis Diaz in January.

The Colombian started the Community Shield, with new man Carvalho replacing him late on, and could be in line to start on Saturday. With nearly a month of the transfer window remaining, the early fixtures could offer a guide to how well Liverpool will respond to the loss of Sadio Mane after the Senegal star's summer move to Bayern Munich.
