Jurgen Klopp joked Darwin Nunez was “nearly killed” by his new team-mates after a lively first outing for Liverpool.
Nunez, a summer arrival from Benfica for a fee that could reach a club record £85million, played the final half-hour as the Reds were thumped 4-0 by Manchester United in the Bangkok Century Cup in Thailand on Tuesday.
In a busy cameo, the 23-year-old was denied a goal by United goalkeeper Tom Heaton before blazing a clear chance over from close range after Mohamed Salah’s shot had struck the post.
