Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp hailed Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli as an “outstanding player” following his side’s win at the Emirates in the Carabao Cup semi-final.
On a night when Liverpool punished the home side’s mistakes at the back in ruthless fashion, Arsenal struggled to make much in the way of clear cut chances.
A Diogo Jota brace sent the away team through to next month’s final against Chelsea at Wembley as Arsenal were left to rue the kind of mistakes not at all apparent in the first-leg.
Still, Martinelli often looked like the Gunners’ most dangerous attacker and gave Trent Alexander-Arnold problems during the first-half in particular.
A popular figure amongst the club’s supporters and, to many, the sign of the future of Mikel Arteta’s frontline, Martinelli was name-checked by Klopp during his post-match interview.
“Martinelli, by the way, everyone should remember that name,” he told reporters after the game.
“Outstanding player.”
