Liverpool handed quadruple injury boost as attack set to transform

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Diogo Jota is set to return to full training next week as the Liverpool forward closes in on a return from injury.

The Portuguese hasn’t played since suffering a calf injury against Man City back in October, with the lay-off ruling him out of the 2022 World Cup as a result. However, Klopp revealed he returned to training for one session this week as he steps up his return.

And while the forward won’t be available to face former club Wolves this weekend, Klopp confirmed he should be back in team training next week, with Roberto Firmino, Virgil van Dijk, and Luis Diaz also closing in on their own returns.

“Generally it’s looking better. The boys are training,” Klopp told reporters. “Diogo Jota had a full session with the team this week but not the next day. He had a rehab session, not because of the session before. It’s part of the plan.

“I think he will pretty much be back in full training next week. Bobby’s getting closer obviously, very good. Luis is running now. That will take a few weeks still but he’s now out on the pitch running which is really good.

“Virgil is getting closer but not ready for the game obviously. Parts of training next week for Virgil. Nothing else so far, but there are still two hours until training!”

Meanwhile, Klopp also offered an update on Ibrahima Konate, after the Frenchman suffered a hamstring injury in last weekend’s FA Cup exit at the hands of Brighton.

“Ibou is out, Ibou has a muscle injury,” he said. “Again he didn’t think it was massive. It happened in the game. I ask him, ‘Are you okay?’ ‘Yeah, I’m okay!’ After the game, treatment, scan. Bam, out.

“Partnership, it’s not cool. Always the changes, you don’t want to have that. These changes you want to make when you rotate, when we bring them together and everyone is in the perfect moment.

“But Joey and Joel have played together before so it’s not a massive problem. But it’s not perfect, that’s clear.”
