Two times in the past four seasons Liverpool have taken the Premier League title race to the final day. Two times in the past four campaigns, the Reds have fallen short by the narrowest of margins, accumulating over 90 points but missing out to Man City by just one point.
Had they not ended their 30-year wait to be crowned champions of England in between, in 2019/20, last season would have been the bitterest of pills to swallow for Jurgen Klopp ’s side. Going so close only to fall just short once again. When would it ever be ‘our year’?
Instead, with that experience of bouncing back to win the title in 2020, this Liverpool will shrug off last year’s disappointment, pick themselves up, dust themselves off and go again. And with the 2022/23 Premier League fixtures confirmed on Thursday, the Reds now know their route to potential title glory.
