AHMEDABAD: Years ago, Natu Parmar could not fulfill his dream of riding a mare on his wedding day fearing backlash from upper caste communities in his village.
“Considering the FIRs filed almost every month even today for fuleku (pre-wedding procession) by Dalit men, you can only imagine the scenario two decades ago. I was denied the procession by my elders, and I agreed half-heartedly. But I had decided then, that my children won’t suffer my fate,” said Parmar, a resident of Surendranagar in Saurashtra region of Gujarat.
