Julian Edelman on why he loves Jacoby Brissett as Patriots’ starting quarterback

His time will come.

There’s no doubt Drake Maye will be given every opportunity to flourish as New England’s QB1.

But that time is not now.

The Pats stunned the Bengals 16-10 in week 1, and although the numbers that Jacoby Brissett put up weren’t gaudy – 15-24, 0 TDs, 0 INTs – he didn’t turn the ball over and helped his team win its opener.

Julian Edelman, who recently sat down with Mackenzie Salmon from USA Today Sports’ Sports Seriously, agreed with the decision to sit Mayer early on.

“The young quarterback is a delicate thing,” said Edelman. “It’s like nourishing a little bird in a nest.”

And according to the ex-standout receiver, Brissett is the ideal mentor.

“(Jacoby) knows how to win games,” said Edelman. “He’s a great example for a young guy to learn from – on how he prepares, how he takes care of his body, his mannerisms in the meeting room, how he watches film. Drake (doesn’t) know how to do any of that yet.”

Brissett and the Pats will look to make it two straight wins when they take on the Seahawks on Sunday.
