Julian Edelman isn’t one to miss out on a good meme, especially one as notable as the picture of Will Smith slapping Chris Rock from the Oscars.
Edelman used the meme to crack a joke about Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady opting out of retirement after just a few weeks. Brady announced his retirement on social media before returning to the NFL with another social-media announcement.
That’s what made Edelman’s use of the meme so funny. He slapped — pun intended — the text of “retirement” onto Rock’s face and the text of “Tom Brady” onto Smith. And viola: internet gold,

Where did this meme come from?
Rock offended Jada Smith, married to Will. She suffers from autoimmune disorder alopecia, and Rock cracked a joke about her lack of hair, perhaps not knowing about the diagnosis. That’s apparently why Will stormed the stage to hit Rock.
