Julia Roberts is reportedly 'cringing' and 'embarrassed' following the release of Matthew Perry's new book which details his complex love life.
In the book, Friends, Lovers and The Big Terrible Thing, Matthew reveals that he and the Pretty Woman actress had a three-month relationship.
The Friends star, 53, detailed the fiery fling and says it began after Julia was asked to appear as guest character Susie Moss during one episode in 1995.
Matthew, who played Chandler Bing, says he sent Julia 'three dozen red roses' after being told by producers that Julia would take part in the show, only if it involved his character.
He said, following a five-hour phone call, Julia turned up at his door and "a relationship began".
Just three months later, Matthew says he dumped the 54-year-old Hollywood star over fears he was "certain she was going to break up with [him]".
Now, an insider claims that Julia, who is in a happy marriage with husband Daniel Moder with three children, is mortified by Matthew's book.
"Julia is embarrassed and disappointed that Matthew has detailed their fling," they said. "It smacks of Matthew looking for glam soundbites to fill his book and that’s not how Julia rolls."
The insider told Closer magazine: "She’s very old school about her privacy – you never see her kiss and tell about her exes. It made her cringe."
Despite being upset by Matthew lifting the lid on their private life, she is apparently "very pleased to see Matthew healthy and sober".
"She knows how badly he struggled and applauds that he’s shown the courage to get help and encourage others to learn from his own cautionary tale. Julia just wishes he hadn’t dragged her into his life story," the source explained.
His book, released yesterday, goes into detail about his near decade-long battle with drink and drug addiction – telling all about his time in rehab.
One section details the terrifying moment he 'smashed his head into a cement wall' until he was 'covered in blood' during a scary rehab breakdown.
Matthew speaks of the moment he was walking through a hospital in New York as he walked down a set of stairs in a state of "total confusion".
"I'll never be able to fully explain what happened next, but all of a sudden, I started slamming my head against the wall, as hard as humanly possible," he explained.
"Fifteen-love. SLAM! Thirty-love. SLAM! Forty-love. SLAM! Game. Ace after ace, volley after perfect volley, my head the ball, the wall of cement the court," Matthew wrote.
He added: "All the pain on the cement and on the wall, and all over my face, completing the Grand Slam.
"The umpire screaming, 'GAME, SET AND MATCH, UNACCOMPANIED MINOR, SIX LOVE, NEEDS LOVE, SIX LOVE. SCARED OF LOVE.'
"There was blood everywhere," he concluded, saying after "eight of these mind-numbing slams" someone stopped and asked him "Why are you doing that?"
Matthew said: "I gazed at her, and looking like Rocky Balboa from every one of those last scenes, I said: 'Because I couldn't think of anything better to do.' Stairwells."
