We’ve almost reached December and you know what that means? It’s time to rewatch all of your favourite Christmas movies!!!! I’m talking Love, Actually, Elf, and of course, The Holiday. Before you begin imagining yourself living in a gorgeous, tiny, snowy cottage a lá Kate Winslet, I’ve got some sad news for you — the cottage in The Holiday doesn’t actually exist. I’m so sorry.
Speaking to The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2, noted holiday movie heartthrob Jude Law broke some hearts in the studio by revealing the behind-the-scenes fact.
“The cottage doesn’t exist,” Law said, as gasps were heard ricocheting around the studio.
The 51-year-old explained that although director Nancy Myers was trying to find the perfect home to shoot in, she was a “bit of a perfectionist” and couldn’t find one that fit the bill.
“She toured that whole area and didn’t quite find the chocolate box cottage she was looking for. So she just [rented] a field and drew it and had someone build it.”
The actor also admitted that the scenes showing the inside of the cottage weren’t even filmed at the makeshift location.
“We were shooting in the winter here [in the UK], and every time I’d go in that door, we’d cut and we shot the interiors in LA about three months later,” he said, much to the host’s dismay.

You might be thinking, why do people give a fuck about a random cottage in a movie filmed in 2006? Well, to that I say, you don’t get it. The tiny, cosy abode has become a dream house for people all over the world ever since the movie came out.
