With the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebration weekend fast approaching, the nation is ramping up and getting in the spirit for the four-day weekend and planned events such as Trooping the Colour and Party at the Palace. As well as the planned celebrations, it’s all too likely that Brits will want to get into the festive spirit and put on some events of their own, or decorate their homes for the special occasion.
Over recent years, cars have also become a popular way for Brits to show their enthusiasm, with flags and stickers often appearing on vehicles in support of sporting teams, or for charities such as the Poppy Appeal. With retailers across the country already stocking up with jubilee air fresheners, vinyl stickers, and car flags to help Brits celebrate the occasion, it could be worth thinking twice before dressing up your car in red white, and blue, as accessories can land drivers with hefty fines and points on their licence.
While there aren’t any specific laws in place to stop drivers from adding novelty accessories to their cars, Rule 30 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 states that the driver must, at all times, ‘have a full view of the road and traffic ahead of the motor vehicle’.
