JPMorgan Chase reported a 6% increase in third-quarter profit Tuesday, but earnings and revenue fell short of Wall Street expectations as a $658 million loss on investment securities and slower activity in parts of its trading and investment banking businesses weighed on results.
The largest U.S. bank by assets earned $15.31 billion, or $5.57 per share, in the three months ended Sept. 30, compared with $14.39 billion, or $5.07 per share, a year earlier, according to its third-quarter financial results filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
