A 'much-loved' mum-of-two has celebrated her 108th birthday as loved ones joined her for a surprise tea party. Hilda Waterhouse has survived two World Wars, lived under five monarchs and seen 23 Prime Ministers serve the country.
She is the toast of Halecroft Grange care home in Hale, Trafford, after marking her latest birthday. It's a milestone which makes her the 60th oldest woman in Britain.
Hilda was born on July 1, 1915, in Altrincham - almost a year on from the start of the First World War. She married her husband Charles in 1939 at St George’s Church in Altrincham.

Soon after, the couple moved to Sale, where they had daughters Beryl and Judith. The family have enjoyed many meals rustled up by Hilda over the years, with the passionate cook spending years collecting cookbooks and searching for new cuisines at restaurants and on holidays.
To celebrate her birthday, the team at Halecroft Grange decorated the lounge with balloons and banners. The home’s head chef also baked a special birthday cake for the occasion.
Suzi Sumegi, general manager at Halecroft Grange, said: “Here at Halecroft Grange, we believe that every special milestone deserves a party - and Hilda’s 108th birthday is no exception. It was wonderful to help her celebrate this special day with her family and friends and to raise a glass to Hilda.
"Hilda is a much-loved resident at the home - cheers to Hilda.”
