Kate wrote: “Saying goodbye to this brilliant team this week. BBC Breakfast thanks for an incredible 4.5 years - I’ll miss you!”

She added: “Looking forward to new challenges at Morning Ireland (and finally moving back to Ireland after more than a decade away eeeks)”. Naga replied: “You will be greatly missed. One more to go...”

Kate replied: “Thanks Naga. Feels very real now! See you in the morning (I’m bringing treats)”. Jon replied: “We’ll miss you right back! You’ve been brilliant on Breakfast, Kate. Thank you - and all the best at RTE.”

BBC weather presenter Matt Taylor commented: “Aw Kate - wish I’d been there to see you off. You’ve been a joy, even when you were chopping my time. Good luck!” BBC Strictly Come Dancing star Dan Walker, who quit the show last year to head to Channel 5, wrote: “All the best Kate. Where are you off to?”

He later added: “Oooh... I’ve just seen MORNING IRELAND! Great stuff”. Kate replied: “Thanks Dan. Finally making my way back home!”

Kate shared a photo of the BBC Breakfast cast on Twitter, with the group huddled around the iconic red sofas.

Naga and Jon are just two of the stars used by the show. Other hosts include Charlie Stayt, 60, and Mike Bushell, 57, as well as Nina Warhurst and Sally Nugent.
