Jota reacts as Celtic star is told Roberto Martinez is due in Glasgow

Jota has yet to earn a full international call-up for Portugal.

But could that be about to change soon?

The Celtic star was caught off guard when he heard that the manager of the Portuguese national team, Roberto Martinez, is due to be in Glasgow this week.

The former Wigan and Everton boss will attend Beatson Cancer Charity's sporting dinner in the city.

And with a visit to Scotland, there's little doubt that the experienced gaffer will be hearing all about Jota and his recent exploits against Rangers in particular.

The 24-year-old scored the winner on Sunday as Ange Postecoglou's side secured their passage to the Scottish Cup final.

They will take on Inverness at Hampden on June 3, as the Hoops look to complete a domestic treble.

Jota has been a standout player for Celtic since joining nearly two years ago. Last summer, the club spent £6.5million to sign him on a permanent deal from Benfica after his initial loan.

He's been capped at every youth level for his country but has yet to earn his first call-up to the senior side.

After yesterday's game, the goalscorer was surprised to hear of Martinez's visit.

He responded: "Is he? Well, I didn't know that. Enjoy the weather, the amazing weather in Glasgow. Not like Portugal, I can assure you that."

In a follow-up question, Jota was reluctant to speak much more about his international chances.

He added: "We just had a game against Rangers, that's not something we should speak about now. Let's just enjoy the moment."

Hoops captain Callum McGregor backed up his teammate's credentials, though.

He commented: "Yeah, he's a top player. He's been so good for us this season. Again on the big occasion, he comes up with a big goal.

"I'm sure he'll have seen that quality for himself. Should he pick him? I hope so."
