Josip Juranovic and the Celtic transfer playbook that Rangers 'should want' amid blank cheque prediction

Former Rangers star Andy Halliday reckons his former side should be taking lessons from Celtic over the potential sale of Josip Juranovic.

A bumper payday is on the cards should the Parkhead chiefs cash-in on Juranovic in the January window with the defender's stock rapidly rising with his showings at the World Cup, and a top performance against Brazil earning rave reviews ahead of a semi-final showdown with Argentina in Qatar. Contract talks with the 27-year-old have stalled and Celtic could look to sell having already recruited a potential replacement in Alistair Johnston.

With Juranovic within touching distance of a shock World Cup victory in the Middle East, Hearts midfielder Halliday reckons that the Hoops can ask for a blank cheque should the full-back lift the trophy. He believes Rangers should be ready to copy and paste the succession planning shown in Glasgow's east end this term.

When quizzed on a potential fee for the Croat, Halliday told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard: "It's a completely different kettle of fish from signing a guy who has won the World Cup to a guy who has played in the World Cup. I even look at the Alistair Johnston signing for Celtic.

"The fact they got that over the line before Canada potentially progressed, and Alistair Johnston potentially plays the likes of Brazil and performing even further. Then that fee would be significantly higher.

"I don't think that is going to change with Josip Juranovic. You have got player who has been really successful and done really well, but that is what Rangers and Celtic should want.

"Buying a Josip Juranovic, progressing them, having them doing well for the football club and doing significant fee. Then finding the next Josip Juranovic."
