UFC Fight Night 214 lost a bout on the morning of the event.
Heavyweight Josh Parisian was set to face Chase Sherman on the main card of the event taking place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, but after a lengthy early-morning trip to the emergency room, the fight is now off.
Parisian (15-5 MMA, 2-2 UFC), one half of the lone heavyweight bout on the card, explained the situation on Facebook, describing the morning as “one of the worst days of my life.” According to Parisian, he spent over five and a half hours at the hospital Saturday morning due to chest pain, nausea, and palpitations.
One of the worst days of my life. I unfortunately will not be fighting, tonight. I woke up at 1:07am this morning with my heart beating out of my chest and soaked in sweat. I tried to relax over the next 2 hours, but I going in an out of chest pain, cold sweats, nausea, and light headedness. I decided to go to the ER at around 3am and was there until 8:30am. They were able to get rid of my nausea and chest pain, but my palpitations had gotten worse. In over 50 fights, I’ve never pulled or been pulled from one. I am devastated for myself, everyone that helped me this camp, the ufc, the fans, and my opponent. Ill be seeing my cardiologist when I get home to see what is going on with my heart and go from there.
Saturday’s bout would have been Parisian’s second of 2022. He defeated Alan Baudot by second-round TKO at UFC on ESPN 38 in June. The Dana White’s Contender Series veteran has competed under the UFC banner four times since joining the promotion in 2020.
