Josh Brownhill sends defiant relegation message to Everton after Burnley win

Burnley caretaker manager Mike Jackson has credited his players for 'finding a way to win' as the Clarets moved further clear of the relegation zone courtesy of a 2-1 win over Watford.

Despite falling behind in the match at Vicarage Road this afternoon, Burnley responded with two late goals to ease fears of a bottom three finish in the top-flight. Victory has lifted the Lancashire side five points clear of Everton, though the Blues have played two games fewer.

In what has been a remarkable turnaround, the Clarets have now secured three points in each of their last three league outings as they continue to fight for their lives in the division. Speaking after the game, Jackson praised the fighting spirit shown by his players once again to grind out a result.

“We just improved from what we were doing in the first half, we didn’t start as well as we could do, everybody needed to do more – if we lifted it 15-20% we thought we could get back in the game,” said the former Tranmere Rovers manager.

“At this stage of the season it is just about finding ways to win games, and credit to them they’ve done that again. We gave them something to get their teeth into and they built on that. We didn’t play to the standards we have set ourselves recently, but in terms of the response, sometimes at this stage you can’t ask for anymore – these games are so emotionally charged, you just have to find a way.

“I don’t know where it puts us, I don’t look at the table – we just move on to the next one now."

Burnley have now given themselves a real chance of survival with four matches remaining in their campaign, and the club's match-winner against Watford, Josh Brownhill, is adamant the club 'deserve' to be playing Premier League football next season.

“Credit to the boys, the staff, everybody – we have rallied each other and we want to be in this division. We are hard working and we deserve to be in this division," said the midfielder after the full-time whistle. "It is a massive result, especially the manner we did it. It was there for us and I didn’t want to miss this opportunity.”
