Jacksonville Jaguars pass rusher Josh Allen has found his form. The defensive team captain has recorded a sack in four of his last six games with 13 quarterback hits over that stretch.
It’s quite a turnaround for Allen, considering he had zero sacks and only four quarterback hits in the eight games prior. One game during his slump was the Jaguars’ 27-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 10.
While Allen managed to hurry Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes three times and hit him once, he failed to record a sack.
“It left a bad taste in my mouth when I was leaving that stadium,” Allen said Tuesday of that performance, via 1010XL. “I want to rewrite all my wrongs. I think they’re about to see a different Josh than I was that game.
“I’m excited for this game. We’re looking forward to it. We’re excited to play. We’re ready to play. We want to win. We’re gonna win. That’s our mindset.”
Allen wasn’t the only one who struggled to get to Mahomes in November. The entire Jaguars pass rush failed to record a sack in the loss, as Mahomes recorded 331 passing yards, four touchdowns, and one interception on 35 attempts.
It’s also tough to put too much blame on a defense that forced three turnovers and held the Chiefs to a reasonable 27 points. It was the Jaguars offense that punted on five of its first six drives and gave room for Kansas City to take an early 20-0 lead.
Still, the Jaguars will have a much better chance of keeping the Chiefs in check if Allen and the rest of the Jacksonville pass rush can get to Mahomes.
