Wales star Josh Adams has emerged as a major injury concern for the autumn opener against New Zealand on November 5.
The winger underwent scans on a hand injury, which he sustained during Cardiff's victory over the Dragons last weekend. The results have shown that he has chipped a bone in his thumb.
It puts Adams' availability for the All Blacks Test at the start of a four-match autumn campaign in doubt, piling up the back-three problems for Wayne Pivac.
Cardiff boss David Young has revealed Adams is looking at a period of two to four weeks out from the day he sustained the injury, depending on how quickly the bone heals and the pain subsides. A worst case scenario would also make Adams unavailable for the second autumn Test against Argentina on November 12.
Speaking after his side's impressive 30-24 win over the Stormers, Young said: "It's a thumb injury and he's got a bit of a chipped bone, which is anything between two and four weeks, depending on how it settles.
"It doesn't need an intervention, it doesn't need fixing or anything like that. He hasn't got a splint or a cast on it, it's just basically down to pain management after about two weeks.
"They leave us after this weekend and go into the Welsh camp and it'll be a decision for them really. It's touch and go but it's over to their medical team."
Wales boss Wayne Pivac will be hoping Adams arrives in camp on Monday in good shape because he has other issues in the back three. The absence of Liam Williams is being felt and Alex Cuthbert is currently sidelined with injury, despite him being named in the squad.
Were Adams to miss the All Blacks match, it could mean a sensational debut for uncapped winger Rio Dyer, with Leigh Halfpenny and Louis Rees-Zammit the only other fit options in the outside backs department.
An alternative could be moving centre George North back to the wing for this one and opting for a different midfield pairing for Nick Tompkins. However, Pivac appears to prefer North at 13 with Wales.
Pivac said of rookie Dragons wing Dyer: "Rio is a player that has grown in stature over the last 12 months."
Meanwhile, Taulupe Faletau missed Cardiff's win over the Stormers on Saturday night with a calf strain but Young insisted the decision was just precautionary.
