Jose Mourinho told he is "giving nothing to Roma" and "doing worse than at Tottenham"

Things haven't gone to plan since Roma appointed Jose Mourinho as manager ahead of the 2021-22 season, and former Italy internationals Antonio Cassano and Daniele Adani have become the latest to deliver a damning verdict on the former Tottenham boss.

Mourinho picked up his second Serie A dismissal of the season over the weekend, after further dropped points against Verona, while he was also dismissed in a pre-season game.

Things haven't gone too swimmingly in terms of results, either, with Roma's Europa Conference League last-16 qualification overshadowed by a league campaign where the Giallorossi haven't been in the top four since October.

As the Portuguese coach continues to struggle, Adani has added his voice to those criticising a manager who he says offers "nothing" to the club.

A weekend draw with Verona was Roma's third stalemate of the season, leaving them six points adrift of fourth-place Juventus.

Mourinho was dismissed when, after a tirade in the direction of referee Luca Pairetto, he picked up the ball and booted it into the air, while reports in Italy suggest the manager's comments could get him in further hot water.

It is a very different situation to that enjoyed by Mourinho at the start of the season, when Roma briefly sat top of Serie A after three victories in their first three league games.

While they remain in Europe, a 6-1 defeat at Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt in October has been followed by a run of just seven wins from 18 league games.

“He is giving nothing to Roma, we trusted him, but he is not doing enough,” former Inter and Fiorentina defender Adani told Christian Vieiri's 'Bobo TV' Twitch show (via Football Italia ).

“He was forced to introduce young players on Saturday because nobody else was available, although Roma fans don’t think this way.”

Roma had trailed 2-0 at home to Verona, who sit one place behind them in the table, but rescued a point when teenager Edoardo Bove came off the bench to score his first senior goal.

Cassano, meanwhile, has described Roma's current situation as "a disaster".

“[Mourinho has] been doing terribly since that famous 6-1 defeat in Norway. They could have lost on Saturday, but then they made up for it with these two kids," the ex-Roma forward has been quoted as saying by Tuttomercatoweb (via Sport Witness ).

“In my opinion, they are also messages to the owners. It’s a particular situation, which I don’t like at all. They risk being out of the top seven now.

“Mourinho is doing worse than he did at Tottenham, even from the media point of view, where he was always number one, bad. I’m not liking anything.”

The latest comments come just days after Mourinho shot down reports of a dressing-room bust-up at the Stadio Olimpico.

"From the stories I've heard, some might have been expecting me to arrive here with a black eye and a swollen face because of all the punches – that's a big lie," Mourinho said shortly after Roma's elimination from the Coppa Italia.

"The story that came out of a break-up between me and the players is a total lie. We talked after the game, analysed and worked on those errors. That is how I work.

"The players told me they are happy with my working methods. There are no secrets between us, I say things to their face and I invite the players to engage in a dialogue."
