Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho may have hinted at a return to the club amid links with a switch, having revealed he could have left AS Roma earlier this season. The links come as the Blues struggle for form under new boss Graham Potter, who has had a tough start to life in west London.
The former Brighton head coach replaced the highly popular Thomas Tuchel at the helm earlier this season, tasked with fulfilling the philosophy laid out by the new ownership. With over £600million spent on promising talent in the first two windows under Boehly-Clearlake, expectations may have risen further.
Chelsea sit ninth in the table, though they remain only six points off of rivals Tottenham in fifth, which would guarantee Europa League football. "We're confident with what we're doing, I think the club has done a good job," Potter said on the transfer business and the task ahead of him. "Now my job is to improve the team."

While there has been plenty of external pressure, Potter is said to have the full confidence of the board, only exemplified by the spending in the transfer window. That hasn't stopped links with a managerial change though, with the latest being an unlikely return for Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese coach won plenty in his two stints at Stamford Bridge and while he is at AS Roma, he did hint at an exit, saying: "I could've left in December and didn’t, this is my life, every day there is a game. Sometimes it might seem as if we are struggling, but we are up there with all the others who are very strong."
It shows that there has been some thoughts on a switch, though he appears committed to going through with the job in Italy. As for the Blues, they seem to be continuing on their own path under their new regime.
