Jose Mourinho would be interested in the Newcastle United job if Eddie Howe was to leave, according to reports.
The current Fenerbahce manager is understood to be seeking a return to the Premier League in the future. Many believe he has unfinished business in England’s elite.
Taking over the reins from Howe is a potential scenario that would tempt Mourinho. Previously, the Portuguese gaffer has filled the hotseat at Chelsea (2), Manchester United and Tottenham.
As it stands, Mourinho’s time in Turkey is somewhat in jeopardy after an astonishing outburst about the state of the country’s football.
The 61-year-old has only been with the Yellow Canaries since the summer but when things don’t go his way, he doesn’t tend to stick around.
Jose Mourinho Eyes Up Newcastle Job
Off of the back of his most recent rant, Jose Mourinho is understood to have reached out to his contacts to keep up to date with developments at Newcastle.
Mourinho is thought to have developed a friendship with Magpies chairman Yasir al-Rumayyan. The pair met earlier in the year at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
However, Eddie Howe is under absolutely no pressure and his role at St James’ Park is extremely safe. That’s not to suggest a bad run of results couldn’t change that. Nonetheless, that is the nature of the modern game.
With that said, the club’s hierarchy would like the Magpies to return to the UEFA Champions League. If Howe is unable to satisfy those demands, Mourinho would certainly love the task.
Previously in England, the self proclaimed ‘Special One’ has won three Premier League titles, the FA Cup, four League Cups as well as the UEFA Europa League.
That tally of trophies alone is enough to excite Geordies about the future possibility of Mourinho taking over. Until then, Howe will be allowed to flourish as he celebrates his third year in charge at St James’ Park.
On Sunday, the North East giants take on high-flying Nottingham Forest. The best football betting sites in the UK price Howe’s side at 15/8 to win.
