Jose Cifuentes gets Rangers transfer sleuths on red alert with emotional 'new challenge' goodbye to teammate

Jose Cifuentes has said goodbye to an LAFC star as the rumour mill on his Rangers transfer isn't slowing down.

The Ecuadorian has been a name on the lips of Ibrox fans for some time, with Michael Beale and co looking to continue their summer recruitment drive ahead of a title tussle with champions Celtic. The London-born boss has already invited five new names to join his ranks with Abdallah Sima the latest to check in at Auchenhowie. Cremonese forward Cyriel Dessers is also on the verge of penning a Rangers deal after terms were agreed with the Serie B side.

Yet the 24-year-old midfielder remains on the Ibrox shopping list after featuring for the MLS outfit in a crucial derby this week. A report in the Athletic, however, states that Rangers still lead the chase for his signature. There is some question over whether Cifuentes would make the move in this window or whether Beale and the Ibrox hierarchy will have to launch another swoop in January.

The LA side are doing business this window as they announced the departure of Kwadwo Opoku to CF Montreal via the General Allocation Money process used to conduct transfers stateside. The Ghanian forward was a key part of Steven Cherundolo's side but moves to Canada as Cifuentes reacted to his exit with an emotional message on social media.

The midfielder posted to Instagram: "Thank you so much for everything bro, all the best in your new challenge. Love you bro," while tagging his former teammate. Transfer sleuths reckon the youngster is gearing up for his own emotional goodbye in the weeks to come.

Cifuentes could come in while Ibrox star Glen Kamara goes out, with the Finn reportedly garnering transfer interest after a move last summer to France never materialised. Rangers have already acquired Kieran Dowell in the midfield, but may look to add firepower before the window shuts this summer.
