Jos Buttler has welcomed the move of putting the T20 World Cup final on free-to-air TV with Channel 4 once again sharing with Sky Sports.
Just as it was in 2019, Sky Sports have the exclusive rights to show ICC global events, but the two broadcasters agreed to share the final that England won three years ago, and the same will happen on Sunday morning after Buttler’s team thrashed India in their semi-final by 10 wickets.
“I'd be immensely happy with that,” said Buttler following his 80 not out. “That would be fantastic for the game in our country.
“As many eyes as we can get on that final would be great. That would be brilliant.
“It's important that we always look for ways to grow our game and showcase cricket to the next generation especially. We really welcome that."
It could be an historic moment on Sunday were England to win as it would mean they were the reigning World Cup champions in both the 50 over and 20 over formats at the same time, the first time a men’s team would have achieved the feat.
They must first get past Pakistan who will believe destiny is on their side having almost been eliminated in the group stage before turning things around and setting up a repeat of the 1992 final at the same ground.
“We need to enjoy this win, but don't get too far ahead of ourselves,” said Buttler. “There's still the biggest game of the tournament to come.
“It’s going to be an amazing occasion and they don’t come around very often. So it's certainly something to be relished, to be enjoyed, and for us to play with the same freedom that we showed tonight.”
